December 19, 2017Love the detail of Fink taking notes about the people he meets, to compensate for his face blindness. (I also like the way you visualized Fink's issue!)
By the way - I have the same issue as Fink, just not to the same degree. I mostly associate people to context; so it happened to me, to meet a coworker at the grocery store and not to recognize him/her. Plenty of opportunities for embarassing situations!
December 19, 2017Oh wow. Thanks for sharing your experience! We've read a whole lot of how some people deal with it, Fink can relate to that situation for sure.
Same here. If I see someone outside of the context I expect them to be in, I panic. I was once put on the spot by "don't you remember who I am?" in public. And of course I failed. Ugh.
July 11, 2019I was about to say... A few times in my life I didn't recognize people I should have known. I could see the faces but I seemed to have forgotten the names that belong to the faces... It was more a memory issue than a seeing issue. (No big deal, just avoid the names...) I just hope I never have to describe a face...
On the other hand, I tend to see faces where the are none. Most cars have faces. Some houses have faces. Edit: Link removed, the target doesn't exist anymore.
October 11, 2021I have that problem with voices. White noise=people talking or singing, though I can't understand them. If I get stressed out enough, I even hallucinate my mom calling for me. She's dead now, but it was an issue when she was alive and I was her caregiver. She always had to call twice so I'd be sure it was her.
I always tell people, I'll remember who you are, your name just isn't filed with that info. Face, check, what we talked about, check, name, no clue.
December 25, 2022You'd think, having an artist's eye for detail, he'd have some kind of visual coping mechanism. Like breaking people faces down and memorizing individual features as if they were not part of faces.
